About Pamela Aalto, LMSW

I was the owner of my own private practice, since 2013, serving individual persons and families with mild to moderate mental illness, family/relationship challenges, suicide prevention, as well as substance use disorders.

I specialize in the ‘Stage of Change’ recovery incentives which accentuates a strength-based orientation to promote a positive change toward recovery goals.

My specialty is to provide clinical therapy for recipients who struggle with mood disorders: depression, bipolar disorders, and suicidal ideation; anxiety: post-traumatic stress disorder; obsessive compulsive disorders; personality disorders: borderline personality disorders; development disorders: including ADHD/ADD, grief, family, and relationship issues; substance use disorders, while practicing the ‘Stage of Change Approach’.

My specialty treatment modalities include EBP, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Dialectical Behavioral Therapy strategies, EMDR, EBP Motivational Interviewing techniques, EBP Social Skills techniques, and many more but just to name a few…

Past affiliations/job experiences:   

Provided clinical assessments to determine appropriateness for the Local Drug Court Program; as well as provided clinical support to local jail as needed to promote safety for persons incarcerated.

I developed and provided Suicide Prevention Programs for local schools and Intermediate School Districts for the past 8 years. During this time, I was also providing assessments for learning disorders, emotional impairments, ADHD/ADD assessments, addressing bullying, and family challenges. All while in collaboration with school Social Workers; as well as provided clinical support as needed for schools going through difficult issues as a whole, i.e. loss of a teacher or another student.

Employed for 12 years, serving persons suffering from severe and persistent mental illness, developmental disabilities, and/or emotional impairments, at the local Community Mental Health agency, providing ACT services, crisis services, clinical assessments/diagnosis, person-centered planning, and links to local, state, and federal supports, as well as acted as group lead for a dual recovery group. 

Worked with Veterans while employed with Oscar G. Johnson Medical Center providing counseling and linking necessary supports for Veterans at home or in the community.

Prior to pursuing Social Work as a Clinical Therapist, I was employed at Maximum Men’s Correctional facility, for nearly 10 years, as a Corrections Officer, Assistant Resident Unit Manager, Gang Affiliations coordinator, and Sergeant.

With my extensive background experiences, I’ve treated many different patients and have a seen a wide variety of mental health cases. I have a firm believe you should be the ‘driver of your own bus’ to find success and happiness in your life. It is very important to me to listen closely to my patients, finding the root cause of any situation, and teach patients how to be the ‘driver of their own bus’. I am well versed in various cultural backgrounds, this understanding as well as many other influences, will allow us to develop your personal road to happiness.
