About Brian Phillips, NP
Good mental health care begins with listening to the patient. Expect thorough 60 minute diagnostic evaluations and comprehensive follow ups. As a Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner, I think of myself as a passionate nurse, care-giver, and patient advocate first, and a prescriber second. I have engaged in a considerable amount of additional training and supervision after completing my specialty in psychiatric nurse practice. For years I have worked along side Dr. Akash Kumar MD and we are both passionate about staying on the cutting edge of psychiatric medicine.
I employ an evidenced-based approach to medication selection, and integrate the latest scientific research into my prescribing including testing for nutritional and vitamin deficiencies, as well acquiring pharmaco-genomic testing to more quickly ascertain which medications are likely to be beneficial or potentially harmful.
Having worked in maximum security prison, I’ve treated the most difficult cases. I have worked with patients facing end-of-life issues, severe physical, mental, and sexual trauma and abuse, as well as severe cases of anxiety, depression, PTSD, mood swings, psychosis, and anger management.

NP Phillips is in-network, and a preferred provider, with most BCBS PPO and Blue Care Network plans. He is also in-network with Aetna, BlueCrossComplete, Medicaid and UHC/UBH.
Out-of-network Insurances
NP Phillips is out-of-network with HAP, ASR, Cigna, and Magellan.
